and Cal have 2 sons: Eric Raymond and Jason Lee born at Buffalo, MN. Arnold Melvin was married to Dolores Mae Brooks at the Decorah Lutheran parsonage 9 Dec 1945 by Pastor Axel Shefveland. They have no children. Martha lola married Charles Horace Rosendahl at Decorah Lutheran Church 6 Dec 1946. They have 3 children: Marsha Joan (m. Norwood E. Band, Jr.), Gregory Charles (m. Pamela Ann Moore) and Paul Ove (m. Jenny Marie Freeburg). Marvin Sylvester married Ruth Evalyn Anderson 31 Jul 1948 at Lake Mills, IA. They have 3 children: Kathleen Ann (unmarried), Erick Marvin (m. 1. Patty Lynn Van Lengen and m. 2. Barbara Knuppel - divorced both) and Ruth Ann (m. Scott R. Appleby).

Ole died 14 Feb 1929 and Thorbjor died 10 Jun 1961. They are buried at the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Rolfs, George and Anna (Madaus)

George Louis “Louie" Rolfs was born 13 May 1869 in Davenport, IA, the oldest child of Hans and Charlotte Rolfs. Most of his schooling was in the Davenport area. In 1884 Louie moved with his family from the Davenport area farm to a farm his father had purchased near Clermont in Fayette Co., IA. There were many chores to be done and Louie’s help was needed on the farm. Louie and his brother John cut many trees and pulled many stumps to clear the land. Louie left home at an early age to work for others. One of his first employers was William Larrabee who later became Governor of Iowa. Later he worked for Joe Schultz for 4 years.

While working for Mr. Schultz he met Anna Madaus. Louie and Anna were married 7 Feb 1896. They set up housekeeping on a rented farm near Saratoga in Howard Co., IA. Their first 2 children, Ella and Walter, were born there. The family then moved to a farm near Clermont. The brick house on this farm was originally occupied by then Ex-Governor Larrabee. Here Louie and Anna’s next 2 children, Richard and Elsie, were born. Louie and his family then moved to a farm near Postville in Clayton Co., IA where Lydia was born. The family then moved to the Schutte farm east of Postville where the last 3 children were born, Leonard, Harvey and Rosena. Still later Louie and Anna moved to the John W. Waters farm near

Frankville in Winneshiek Co. where they lived for many years. This was best known as home to most of their children. Louie and Anna are buried in the Postville Cemetery.

Rollins, Alvin and Mary (Stead) Rollins

Alvin Rollins, son of James Church and Mary (Tripp) Rollins, was born in Coloma, WI 11 Sep 1855. When Alvin was 6 years old the family moved to Portage, WI. In 1864 when he was 9 years old Alvin assisted his father in driving cattle from Portage to a farm in Burr Oak Twp.

Alvin was married 8 Oct 1876 to Mary Elizabeth Stead. She was born 14 Jun 1858 in Burr Oak Twp. to John and Mary (Russel) Stead. Mary and Alvin remained on the James Church Rollins farm until 1915 when they moved to Decorah, IA. In Decorah he was associated with J.C. Beard in the real estate business. In 1919 he was elected to the City Council from the Fourth Ward. He also was a member of the Decorah School Board.

Alvin and Elizabeth Rollins

Alvin died 17 Dec 1920 and Mary died 22 Mar 1950. They raised a family of 6 children: Howard, John, Maude, Alvin, Clara and Earl. Howard married Fern Butler. Their two children are Beverly Heltne and Shirley Myli. John married Floy Glise. Their children were Dorothy, Dean, Dale and Delnor. Maude married Fred Donald. Alvin Gaylord married Ruth Rasmussen. Their 2 children are Juletta (Isenberger) Quiggle and Troy Rollins. Clara never married. Earl married and his 2 children are Harley and Earl Rollins Jr.

Clara Rollins was born 21 Mar 1877 in Winneshiek Co.. IA to Alvin and Mary Elizabeth (Stead) Rollins. She received her education in the rural schools and Valders College. She then taught at the Rollins country school in rural Burr Oak, IA. Clara attended Cornell College and graduated in 1906. After college she taught for a number of years in the Buffalo and Glencoe school systems.In 1920 Clara returned to live with her mother in Decorah after the death of her father.
